The Earrings of Madame de
"The Earrings of Madame de..." is a classic French romantic drama where a pair of diamond earrings becomes the central pivot, symbolizing love, deception, and destiny within a high-society love triangle. For the L'ÉCOLE festival, this film perfectly illustrates how a single piece of jewelry can drive a powerful narrative and embody profound human emotions. It aligns perfectly with the "Celebration of the Iconic Role of Jewelry in Cinema and Arts" program, showcasing jewelry's narrative power and symbolic depth.
El Sett
"El Sett (2025)," an Arabic biographical drama with English subtitles starring Mona Zaki, chronicles Umm Kulthum's rise to the "Voice of the Arab World." For the L'ÉCOLE festival, this film uniquely shows how jewelry became integral to her iconic persona, symbolizing her status and cultural heritage. It aligns perfectly with the "Celebration of the Iconic Role of Jewelry in Cinema and Arts," highlighting jewelry as a visual narrative.
The Boy & The Heron
The "gray heron" in "The Boy and the Heron" acts as a mysterious guide for Mahito, leading him on an adventure to confront his past after the loss of his mother. This central role of the heron makes it a perfect, direct link to a "Poetry of Birds" exhibition, where it would be explored as a powerful symbol of guidance, transformation, and nature's profound influence on human experience.
KES
Connecting 'KES' with a 'Poetry of Birds' exhibition explores shared themes, centered on the kestrel, Kes. Like birds in poetry, Kes symbolizes freedom, escape, and a wild connection, mirroring Billy Casper's liberation through training. Both celebrate birds' grace and vulnerability, fostering empathy and highlighting the human-animal bond. 'KES' is a compelling visual poem, resonating with avian verse's emotional and symbolic power.
The Eagle Huntress
The Eagle Huntress follows the story of Aisholpan, a 13-year-old Kazakh girl from Mongolia, as she attempts to become the first female eagle hunter to compete in the Eagle Festival at Ulgii, Mongolia, established in 1999. She belongs to a family of nomads who spend their summers in a ger in the Altai Mountains and their winters in a house in town. The men in her family have been eagle hunters for seven generations, and she wants to follow in their footsteps.
Wings of Desire
'Wim Wenders' 'Wings of Desire' is a poetic exploration of love, existence, and the human condition. Our 'Poetry of Birds' exhibition shares a similar artistic sensibility, using craftsmanship and design to capture the essence of birds and their symbolic significance. Join us for an evening of cinematic poetry as we present 'Wings of Desire' in an outdoor setting, inviting you to connect with the beauty and wonder of both the film and the bird world.
