L'ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts opened its third permanent campus, housed in Shanghai’s magnificent Twin Villas, in October 2023. Located on Middle Huaihai Road, a thoroughfare often compared to the Champs-Elysées, this pair of neoclassical buildings were built in the 1920s at the time of the French Concession (1849-1946). It was an era of rich cultural eclecticism, when travelers, artists, and intellectuals from the four corners of the Earth were drawn to Shanghai.
This online conference will explore this fascinating moment in Shanghai’s history and the cross-cultural influences that gave rise to the Twin Villas.
