L’ÉCOLE invites you to discover the stories behind the world of gemstones through live reading sessions with our experts.
For this session, Dr. David Usieto Cabrera, Professor at L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, will read an excerpt from Ancient Carved Ambers in the J. Paul Getty Museum by Dr. Faya Causey.
During the session, he will explore the chapter “Amber Magic?”, tracing how amber’s singular physical properties, its warmth, its electrostatic charge, its capacity to preserve ancient life within, made it one of the most charged materials in the ancient Mediterranean world, and asking what that layered meaning tells us about jewelry as an object of belief, identity, and ritual power.
For those who wish to go further, featured titles are also available at the L’ÉCOLE Library Corner at Al Safa Art & Design Library.
