As part of the 5th Anniversary L’ECOLE Asia Pacific celebration program, we will be presenting the “Black Diamonds: Rediscovered Treasures”. This Presentation highlights one of L’ECOLE’s core pillars – The World of Gemstones – by exploring the research surrounding the rediscovery of the world’s largest diamond, conducted by a renowned French scholar, François Farges. The distinction of being the largest diamond ever discovered belongs to the Sergio, which weighs over 3,106 carats and was found ten years before the discovery of South African diamond “Cullinan” in 1895. But, unlike the Cullinan, which has numerous historical replicas, no replica of the Sergio other than an engraving from 1895 and a photo from 1906 was known until 2023, when a historic replica of the Sergio was found in Paris.
Alongside the loans from National Museum of Natural History, Paris (MNHN), detailing the history of the Sergio and its rediscovery, a Belle époque black diamond brooch from a private collector will also be showcased in the pop-up presentation.
A special conversation between François Farge & Olivier Segura will also take place at L’ECOLE APA campus during the Presentation period on November 11th, 2024.
