Amber: Art & Science

A fossilized gem with astonishing plant, animal or gaseous inclusions, amber has been used since prehistoric times in the creation of numerous jewels and statuettes. Yellow, red or even white, amber has, like jade or yellow gold, always been seen as a symbol of political power and as an agent of protection in both Asian or European cultures. Carved and engraved, amber is a miniature work of art which has contributed to the histories of both sacred art and contemporary jewelry.
