In the realms of Fine and Decorative Arts, floral motifs showcasing flowers, buds, pistils, petals, branches, and leaves have adorned precious objects with their vibrant colors and symbolic significance. This discussion explores the connection between blooming gardens and colored gemstones, focusing on Flora in Design and Jewelry Arts through the perspectives of an artist and a gemologist. We invite the public to celebrate the new season at a lovely evening event in Tai Kwun!

Alexandre Benjamin Navet

Artist

At the crossroads of art, illustration, design and architecture, Alexandre Benjamin Navet’s work brings fresh and vibrant color surging into space, engaging directly with the viewer. Since his graduation from the École nationale supérieure de création industrielle ENSCI-Les Ateliers (the French national institute for advanced studies in industrial design) in 2011, his initial training has formed the basis for an approach that transforms surfaces in a juxtaposition of dazzling tones, objects and plays on perspective. A multi-disciplinary artist, he employs different techniques: oil pastels – his favorite medium – pencil or Japanese watercolor. In 2017, Alexandre Benjamin Navet was awarded the Grand Prix Design Parade Toulon, sponsored by Van Cleef & Arpels. In 2018, he was the first artist to be given carte blanche by the MAD (Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris) – with Espèces d’espaces – at its new Galerie d’Actualités. In 2020, he embarked on a collaboration with Van Cleef & Arpels to celebrate spring, and in 2023, Alexandre Benjamin Navet unveiled the installation of five monumental sculptures in the Cour d’Honneur and the Jardin des Quatre-Colonnes of the French Assemblée Nationale

Olivier Segura

Managing Director of L’ÉCOLE Asia Pacific, School of Jewelry Arts

A man of passion, Olivier Segura only came across the world of jewelry after a few years devoted to advertising and communication. On completing his initial training, scientific studies in biology and geology with a diploma in gemology, he moved to Bangkok where he created his gem trading company. Thanks to this, he discovered the fascinating world of jewelry and craftsmanship. Returning to Paris to take over the management of the LFG (French Gemological Laboratory), a position he held for ten years, he joined L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts’ Scientific Council. In 2018, Olivier Segura took the plunge and joined the institution as Scientific Director. He has been responsible for new courses, such as “Pearls: History, Science and Legends”, exhibitions, such as “Garden of Emeralds” at the Dubai campus, and books, the latest to date, Discover Gems, written jointly with François Farges, Distinguished Professor of Institute IMPMC at the French National Museum of Natural History in Paris.
