Discovering beauty through an unprecedented jewelry collection from an eminent local collector

Nicolas Luchsinger, Curator of the exhibition & President of Van Cleef & Arpels, Asia Pacific

“The collection’s name, ILLUMINATA, deepened my fascination with its connotations of secrecy and enlightenment… All the pieces in this collection are not only wearable but also a testament to the owner’s profound sense of style, influenced by the vibrant confluence of East and West in Hong Kong.”

November 10, 2023 - Presented by L’ÉCOLE Asia Pacific, School of Jewelry Arts, the new exhibition titled “An Eye for Beauty, the Illuminata Jewelry Collection” promises to be a captivating journey into the passion for collecting led by a pioneering lady from Hong Kong.
This exhibition marks the fourth of the series “Through the Eyes of a Connoisseur” dedicated to the exploration of taste and the art of collecting. In the footsteps of previous editions, which commenced with a 20th-century American Jewelry collection (L’ÉCOLE in New York, 2018), followed by treasures from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (L’ÉCOLE in Dubai, 2018), and the prestigious Art Nouveau pieces from the Albion Art Jewellery Institute Collection (L’ÉCOLE in Tokyo, 2019), this edition continues to focus on the dialogue between cultures and their criteria of beauty.

With approximately 50 extraordinary pieces, the exhibition represents a dialogue between Western and Eastern aesthetics. It unveils European and Chinese masterpieces, all carefully selected from the private collection of an esteemed connoisseur. Visitors will embark on a journey of discovery, delving into the multifaceted concept of beauty from various perspectives, with a strong emphasis on the timeless notions of versatility and transformability across 300 years of art history. Olivier Segura, Managing Director of L’ÉCOLE Asia Pacific, School of Jewelry Arts sums it up beautifully: “At L’ÉCOLE, we continuously carry the mission to share jewelry culture with a large and diverse audience. This time, we are thrilled to introduce this remarkable collection from a Hong Kong private collector for the very first time. It pays tribute to the timeless appeal of cross-cultural beauty and the lasting legacies of jewelry”.
