Art Déco

Art Deco

In the most complete work ever published on the decorative arts of this period, Alastair Duncan pays tribute to the sophisticated richness and international diversity of Art Deco, which has never stopped attracting collectors and inspiring designers. The book consists of a series of essays on the main decorative arts of the period: furniture and interior design; sculpture; painting, illustration, posters, bookbinding; glasswork; ceramics; lighting; textiles; goldsmithery, metalwork, lacquer, enamel; and jewelry.

Paris Moderne 1914-1945

Paris Moderne 1914-1945

A wealth of artistic talent is traced in dictionary format, starting with photographer Laure Albin-Guillot for the letter "A" and ending with art critic Christian Zervos for "Z" via Joséphine Baker, Marcel Carné, Coco Chanel, Le Corbusier, Fernand Léger, Adolf Loos, Charlotte Perriand, Helena Rubinstein and Tristan Tzara. With almost one hundred entries, it forms an abundantly illustrated, kaleidoscopic portrait. A photographic report by Antonio Martinelli shows what today's architectural and urban landscape reveals about the Paris of a hundred years ago.

Coquemer

Coquemer imprimeur typographe art déco

A completely unknown work on a printer-typographer (today we would call him a graphic designer) totally forgotten.

All the illustrations are unpublished: wonderful prints for Parisian luxury brands, at the height of beauty and graphic sophistication, can be discovered through the pages. The author favors simplicity in the character design… among his jewelry clients: Fouquet, Dusausoy, Paul Brandt.

The reader will follow Coquemer through his life as a printer from the turn of the 19th century until the years 1930’s, discover the origins of two fashionable typefaces (that of the Gazette du Bon Ton and that of the Normande), get to know Vionnet and Poiret better through their relationship with their printer and immerse themselves in the effervescence of the 1925 International Exhibition.
