Following your discovery of the exhibition dedicated to Roger Caillois, enjoy Juliette Agnel's photography exhibition for free, throughout the month of November.
Juliette Agnel brings together a selection of photographic works centered on minerals – Géode de Pulpí, Silex – and presents, for the occasion, new images taken from the Sorbonne University mineral collection.
In recent years, Juliette Agnel has carved out a unique niche in the French photographic landscape. From the light of cosmos to the depths of earth, her gaze pierces layers of the visible in an attempt to approach the invisible. The stones she photographs are not mere objects of nature, but rather the result of a metamorphosis, a transformation from the raw to the refined, from the mineral to the organic. It is the living part of matter that the artist reveals.
This exhibition extends the focus on rocks – not for their value, but for their symbolic, poetic, even cosmic power. It engages in dialogue with the thinking of Roger Caillois, who, in his book L’Écriture des pierres (The Writing of Stones, 1970), celebrates the ability of minerals to produce images.
