L'ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels is for whom ?

L'ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels is for everyone ! The first school of its kind, for initiation into jewelry and watchmaking, for the public, L'ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels offers a curriculum for discovering and trying out, hands-on, in French or in English, for all those who would like to broaden and deepen their knowledge about these hidden worlds.
Gemology, Art History, Savoir-Faire: you can register for one or several courses, as you wish, there is never a prerequisite or a required order in which to take courses. Please contact us in order for us to work out together a selection of courses which will be best for your individual interests.

Exactly what are the Evening Conversations? How do they differ from the regular courses ?

L'École offers a monthly scheduled program of Evening Conversations, from 8pm to 10pm, to go further on original topics related to the jewelry world. During those evenings 35 people get the chance to learn from and share with two experts on a particular topic.

Conduct of courses

Where do the courses take place ?

L'ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels is situated at 22, place Vendôme in the 1rst arrondissement of Paris. The students’ entrance is at 31, rue Danielle Casanova.

How long does it take to complete a course?

Each course lasts 4 hours except the initiation program "First Steps into the Jewelry World” (in French only) which lasts 2h30 and the Evening Conversations, 2 hours. We ask students to arrive 15 minutes before the beginning of the course in order to meet their teachers around a buffet in the reception area. All the students have the opportunity to meet and share their experiences during the breaks.

How often do the courses take place, what is the schedule and program of the courses ?

L’ÉCOLE offers monthly sessions (except during summer holidays), meaning each course is available once a month. The schedule of the courses is accessible several semesters in advance. At what time do the courses take place ?

The classes are held in the morning from 9am to 1pm and in the afternoon from 2:30pm to 6 :30pm. The initiation course « First Steps into the Jewelry World » (in French only) takes place from 5 to 7 :30 pm and the Evening Conversations from 8pm to 10pm.

How many students is there in each course?

Six, eight or twelve students, depending on the course. Each student can try out the gestures, manipulate the precious materials, exchange with the teachers and experts, and discover closely  all  the aspects of the savoir-faire. 

In what language are the courses taught?

Do I need specific equipment to attend the courses ?

No you don’t, L’ÉCOLE provides everything for you.

Do the courses and Evening Conversation only take place in Paris?

L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels, founded and teaching on Place Vendome in Paris, travels to meet its students in their own countries and to offer them a complete curriculum of courses and evening conversations.

I live abroad and I can’t attend your courses, do you offer any e-learning programs?

L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels doesn’t offer online courses or e-learning programs. Our exclusive curriculum of initiation into the jewelry world is based on hands-on interaction between students and teachers/experts.
However, in the e-library section of our website, we provide exclusive educational content for everyone « To Go Further » in your exploration of jewelry.

Is it possible to book a private lesson ?

who are the teaching staff at L’ÉCOLE ?

The teaching staff at L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels is made up of more than 30 instructors: jewelers, art historians, experts, gemologists, watchmakers… Although each of them deals with their own specific field of expertise, they are united by the desire to share their knowledge through experimentation and dialogue. They all share a passion for teaching about jewelry.

Is there a minimum age requirement to attend the courses at L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels ?

Besides the Creative Workshops which are dedicated to the younger children (5-12 years old) and the teenagers (12-16 years old), our courses and Evening Conversations are reserved to adults (18+).

Do you offer additional support and documentation in order to extend and deepen the knowledge shared during your courses?

Absolutely. At the end of each course we provide you with an extended list of resources (books, websites, museum, films) to deepen your knowledge. To go further, stimulates and fulfills your sense of curiosity, we made a series of short films which are available in the e-library section of the website. Don’t hesitate to check them out and share them with your friends.

Do you accept foreign students?

Is there any prerequisite in order to attend your courses or can one be a real beginner in the jewelry world?

There is no prerequisite for taking our courses. L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels offers initiation courses to beginners who would like to become enlightened enthusiasts.

Does L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels provide professional qualification and certification?

No, L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels is the first school of its kind, for initiation into jewelry and watchmaking, for the public, and therefore does not provide professional qualification and certification. However, we often welcome professionals from all around the world, who would like to broaden and deepen their knowledge on Art History of Jewelry, Gemology or Savoir-faire.
