Master's Research Scholarships 2026-2027

Call for applications is open until September, 25th 2026.

In 2019, L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, with the support of Van Cleef & Arpels, created annual scholarships for students enrolled in a Research Master's or in a DUG program on a topic related to jewelry or gems. Students should be enrolled in art history, in history of sciences and techniques or heritage (conservation, heritage materials), in archeology, in history of sciences and techniques, in ethnology or in an Academic Diploma in Gemology (DUG). 

The application process is now open.
Five annual scolarship are available for Research Master and five others for DUG.

This financial support for jewelry research is in line with the overall mission of L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, which aims to spread and build knowledge relating to jewelry. 

Research Master’s Scholarships

The five annual scholarships are worth 2,000 euros each (1,000 euros in the first year of the master's program and 1,000 euros in the second year). The second 1000€ is conditional on the student’s results in the first year. Scholarships are open to both French and European students. Applications and dissertations may be written in either French or English.

Research Master’s Scholarship Application Documents

Applications must be sent by email only, by the specified deadline, to the following address (Subject: "Master's Research Scholarship"):

The application must contain the following documents:

  • Detailed CV, specifying past and current education in particular
  • Research proposal: title, university of registration, research supervisor, presentation of the research project validated (3,000 characters maximum: justifications for the choice of subject, state of research on the proposed subject, sources and main places where research will take place)
  • Letter of recommendation from research supervisor

DUG Scholarships

The five annual scholarships are worth 2,000 euros each (1,000 euros in the first year of the master's program and 1,000 euros in the second year).
Scholarships are open to both French and international students. Applications and dissertations may be written in either French or English.

DUG Scholarship Application Documents

Applications must be sent by email only, by the specified deadline, to the following address (Subject: "DUG Scholarship in Gemology"):

The application must contain the following documents:

  • Detailed CV, specifying past and current education in particular
  • Cover Letter outlining the reasons for choosing this diploma and this topic
  • Research proposal(s): title(s), university of registration, research supervisor, presentation of the research project, hosting laboratory for analyses, sample availability (3,000 characters maximum: state of research on the proposed subject, sources)
  • Letter of recommendation from the DUG supervisor

Selection Committee

The selection committee is led by Elise Gonnet-Pon, Managing Director at L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts France-Europe.

The jury will evaluate the scientific strength of the projects submitted and their overall relevance.

  • Circulation of the call for applications: June 26th 2026
  • Application submission deadline: September 25th 2026
  • Selection Committee meeting and notification of results: October 23rd 2026
  • Scholarship Award Ceremony at L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts: November 3rd 2026
