In a presentation between earth and sky, the exhibition "Birds in Paradise" showcases a selection of bird brooches created between 1850 and 1960, loaned by two private collectors and from the Maison Van Cleef & Arpels Heritage Collection. The birds are depicted in different positions—on the ground, on a branch or in full flight—and are magnified by the sumptuous colored stones that pay tribute to their beauty. Sparrows, swallows, eagles, doves, parrots, owls… L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts hosts them all here for the duration of this remarkable exhibition.
These brooches, brought together for "Birds in Paradise" reflect the popularity of representations of birds, vibrant delicate creatures that act as a link between earth and sky. These pieces foster a dialogue with some remarkable patrimonial works—paintings, drawings, engravings and ceramics—on special loan from the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Musée National de Céramique de Sèvres. The jewelry pieces are displayed within the context of artistic creation in general.
