A piece of jewelry is the fusion of luxury, scarcity and beauty to achieve the extraordinary. A symbol of purity and immutability–"diamonds are forever"–it is a measure of love and a sign of commitment. More bluntly, jewelry also conveys the power of money, but while coins and banknotes are hidden in the shadows of safes, jewelry is on full display. And wealth showcases in such a way attracts a lot of envy...
Jewelry comes into its true power when it adorns the body. This feature is the most secret and the strongest of all, always aphrodisiac and often erotic: the power to seduce and to provoke. From Pliny the Elder to Pauline Réage–not to mention Rabelais, Maupassant, Romain Gary, Robert Desnos, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Marcel Proust and many more–jewelry is synonymous with literature, popular music and opera.
Without the determined, often thankless and sometimes dangerous work of miners and prospectors, the trade in precious stones and the patient art of the cutter, all of which take place far from the limelight, jewelry would not exist at all.
