Polishing a jewel means revealing the light on its surface. Behind this somewhat poetic definition lies a little-known, difficult and highly technical craft that requires special know-how.
In the trade, it is said that it takes at least ten years to train an experienced polisher, capable of working on any piece of fine jewelry. The time required to learn all about the metal, its subtleties and its pitfalls. A quality piece must be as beautiful on the obverse as on the reverse.
During this talk, our speakers will present the gestures that, among others, illuminate the work of the jeweler and of the setter. They will discuss the training and transmission of this craftsmanship, and emphasize the importance of this know-how at the heart of the jewelry-making process.
