Art Nouveau and Jewelry: 20 years of creative liberation

Maximal participants:

Discover how Art Nouveau revitalized jewelers' art

This class is conducted by two art historians.

After a 19th century dominated by pastiche, the innovations of Art Nouveau forged an entirely original style in the space of just 20 years.
In a specific political, economic and artistic context, you will learn from the sources of Art Nouveau, the master jewelers of that time, and discover the muses, actresses and dancers that marked Paris in 1900.

“Less academic than a traditional Art History class, this is a course in which we offer our passion. Travelling back to the Belle Epoque, one of my favorite periods, let us guide you with famous names, such as Lalique, Guimard, Gallé, Gaudi, Tiffany… in order to have a better understanding of this unique and so specific style!”

Students' reviews

Aurélie D. - Paris

This course was amazing! It helped me understand how the political and cultural context can exert such an influence on art. I really enjoyed how rich the class was, how it focused on so many aspects of Art Nouveau. I wish I had more time to study it!

Chris G. – New York

Participating in a class at L’ECOLE was so much more than I could have imagined. The Art Nouveau class was absolutely inspirational! The interactive elements that were incorporated (in a class that could have been a simple lecture) vividly brought to life all the learning, ideas and concepts that were discussed

Mary D. – New York

The instructors were sparkling in their wonderful, beautiful, informative and entertaining class on Art Nouveau. What a fantastic experience!
